The Happiness Jar

This is something I post at least once a year, something I started doing in 2015 and will continue doing every year since.

It’s called a happiness jar, where you put a little note in every time that something makes you happy, so that at the end of the year you can read them and remember all the moments of joy you got to experience.

We humans are biased to remember the bad stuff more clearly than the good. Evolutionarily speaking, it kept us alive: remembering hurt and fear makes you steer clear of the same danger in the future.

The unfortunate downside is that joy and happiness are lost and forgotten in a sea of memories of the bad stuff.

Make a note when you feel joy, so the moment won’t be lost.

It’s not always easy, and there are times when it feels like nothing brings genuine happiness.

On those days make a note of anything positive, something that made you feel good even for a short moment.

Everything is precious.
